August 23, 2015 FLM Board Meeting Minutes
FRIENDS OF THE LOGGING MUSEUM
Minutes of the 8/25/15 Board Meeting
In the absence of Ginny Kafka and VP Bob Ash, the meeting was called to order at 1:04 p.m. by John Hofstetter.
Present: John Hofstetter, Pat Bradley, Donna Hanan, Jaci Payton, Carol Aquilina, Sue Harmuth, John White, Richard Small, Helen Tardif, Mike Skenfield, Bill Nelson, Bill Kafka, Al Arieta
Correspondence: John Hofstetter received an invitation from the Angels Camp Museum to talk about logging history on 10/4, 2pm to 3pm. He will be giving an overview of logging in Calaveras County from the gold rush to the present. This would be a good listening and learning opportunity for our docents.
Pat Bradley read a letter of thanks from the State Fair Board for FLM’s participation in this year’s fair.
Approval of Minutes: It was moved by Helen Tardif, seconded by John White to approve the minutes of the 7/28/15 board meeting as presented. The motion carried.
Acceptance of Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer’s report was presented by John White. John reported that “Quick Books” has proven to be a valuable tool. It was moved by Jaci Payton, seconded by John White to approve the Treasurer’s Report as presented. The motion carried.
Exhibit Report: Mike Skenfield reported that the new exhibit comparing old and new logging methods is nearly finished. He is working on the DVD which contains 20 pictures. John White has reworked the background for the exhibit and in time a photographic mural will also be added. The monitor will be installed soon. Doug Grover and Dick Bradford have been a big help with the exhibit and will receive free entry and lunch tickets for the Jamboree.
Damage Report: John Hofstetter summarized the degree of damage caused by the squirrel in the transformer on 7/17/15 which caused a power surge. The list of things sustaining damage are: all land line connections, fire alarm control and communicator, burglar alarm control and communicator, front desk computer, and possibly the printer in the media room (which has been replaced). A claim will be filed with PG&E after any remaining work is done. We will be going with internet phones. This will eventually save a lot of money but savings won’t show up for a while because of necessary equipment replacement. Fortunately, the things that were plugged into a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) were not lost.
Jamboree Update: Everyone is doing their job in hammering out the details for the Jamboree on 9/5/15. These details include: raffle donations, Jamboree shirts, deputy sheriff volunteers, table set-ups taking place on Friday at 2:00, snow cone machine, beer, wine, cookies, publicity, highway signs, kids games, weed eating, barbeque, singer of the national anthem, CCWD insurance, and “Bearly Used” items. Sponsorship letters have been mailed out. Pat Bradley will follow up with phone calls to those who haven’t responded. The man from Moose forgot that he was supposed to order meat so we are now going with Big Trees Market. Hamburgers and chicken sandwiches will be sold for $5.00 and hot dogs for $4.00. Both will include chips. Drinks will be sold separately. The Amador exhibit will run from the power pole toward the propane tank, and CCTV will be saved a spot next to the lumber loader Volunteers should check in with Pat Bradley in the museum to find out where they are needed.
Incident Report Forms: Bob Ash has found an incident report form. Copies have placed in a Safety/Incident Binder to be used for any injury or other potential problem. Red folder on main counter
Information Items: Pat Bradley reported that she was present at the birthday party that was held at the Logging Museum on 8/8. She stated that it went very well with 55 people in attendance. The group was very considerate in leaving the building in great shape. The Kemerer family made a $1,000 donation to the museum.
Sue Harmuth and Pat Bradley (and Ginny??) represented FLM at the Big Trees Family Day on 8/15 where visitors could try their hand at a two-man saw.
Pat Bradley reported that on Saturday, 9/19 there will be 40 – 60 Big Trees campers coming to visit the museum.
Agenda Items for Next Meeting: Call Ginny (or John?) with agenda items for the next meeting.
Adjournment: John adjourned the meeting at 2:09 p.m.
Next Meeting: 9//15
