Hello,
I am working on a documentary film about a man named Richard Buckley, a Tuolumne native, who spent some time as a logger before he went off to seek his fame and fortune in show business.
I am going to be in the Tuolumne area around the first week of May this year to do some shooting and interviewing for the film. I was especially intrigued by the story you have on Pete Voinich, the 100 year old logger. There is a slim possibility that he might have known the man I am making a film about.
I am wondering if there might be somebody at your museum that would like to talk with me on camera about the life of the loggers back in the day around 1922 to 1928 – Richard Buckley evidently worked as a tree topper back then. It makes sense because he was quite a daring physical performer in his Vaudeville career.
I very much appreciate your time and consideration.

Well Michael by my calculations someone who worked in the lumber industry in the 20’s would probably be at least 102 now. Our Pete Voinich is the closest thing we have to that era and even he isn’t old enough.
Some of the rest of us could talk about what we think we know about logging in the 20’s, but it would just be secondhand at best and probably more handed than that. We’d be happy to put you in touch with Pete, or Pete’s family when you get up into our area.
How about autobiographies and biographies as a source of information?
At any rate, we’d be happy to do what we can.

Just happened across this article regarding lumber mills I have a few pictures of my grandfather who worked at sugar pine if interested I can scan them and share it shows him with other men and the train loaded with trees.
We’d be very interested in having scans of your photos. Thank you.
