Ed Adams, highly regarded Blagen Mill Superintendent

04 Aug 2008

As this web editor talks to former Blagen Mill employees, they seem to always speak of Ed Adams as a man and mill superintendent they liked and respected. We’re fortunate to have gotten a lot of history and photos of Ed and his family. In addition to the photos, I’ve included text that gives us more insight into the history.

Ed’s father, Abe, was a railroad engineer at Sugar Pine Mills near Oakhurst which is where Ed probably learned the lumber mill business.

Ed had an uncle, Frank Adams, who may have worked at Blagen Mill as well.  One of our exhibits includes a photograph in which a Frank Adams is identified.

Note about Ed’s father.

Mill closed in 1962, so Ed was somewhere else after that.

My wife and I again visited your fine museum this past weekend (09/12/09). In looking at your website today I found the information that my cousin Gene Callistro and his mother Lila Callistro submitted regarding Ed Adams, former Mill superintendent. Ed Adams was the great uncle of both Gene and me. Following is some additional information and corrections on the material you have.

    Caption changes regarding Ed Adams.

The caption that reads “Ed and his uncle Gene Callistra” should read “Ed and his nephew Gene Callistro”.

The caption that reads “Ed and Grandmother” should read “Ed and his Older sister Iva Adams Callistro Fish”.

Ed’s father, Abe, was a railroad engineer at Sugar Pine Mills near Oakhurst which is where Ed probably learned the lumber mill business.

I hope this information is of interest to you.

  3. Thanks, Richard.
I have made the changes you indicated, and very much appreciate the information. As you could probably tell, the captions on the back of the photos confused me.
