In this history of lumber mills in the Sierra National Forest, there is a chapter devoted to Madera County mills. It begins with the earliest that the researcher could identify, and since he was doing it in the very early 1940′s and was able to talk with many of the loggers and mill workers who had worked in the 1880′s up through the 1930′s, he probably got it pretty much correct. Hello I would like to say your site is a wonderful resource for logging history research. I work on the Sierra NF in Fuels Management and I enjoyed viewing your reference document as I have visited alot of the sites of the old mills on Madera and Mariposa counties. Thanks and keep up the good work of documenting logging history.
Thanks, Burt,
We love to hear from people that we’ve been able to help find information.
